Walker County 4-H Poultry Judging

What is Poultry Judging?

Poultry Judging is for 6th-12th grade 4-H’ers!

The junior team will be made up of 6-8 graders and the senior team will be made up of 9-12 graders. In this contest, you will learn about different parts of chickens, how to grade chickens and eggs, and how to compare and give reasons on live chickens.

This project is designed to train student evaluation skills in the areas of: live birds, dressed birds, broken out eggs and shell quality eggs. 4-H Poultry Judging encourages
students to observe, evaluate, compare and make decisions. The contest is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their expertise in a competitive environment.

Competitions will be in April and May. Junior teams are not eligible for State competition. The senior teams must place 1st or 2nd at the Area competition to go to state.

For more information, contact your county Cooperative Extension office.
