4-H Youth Development
On October 11th, Walker County 4-H held the first ever 4-H Fall Festival at the Walker County Ag Center. This “county fair” type event included exhibits from different agricultural fields with concessions provided by the Chickamauga Lions Club.
There were kids’ activities and games sponsored by Walker County 4-H County Council members.
The announcement of winners in the 2007 Walker County 4-H Pumpkin contest was held during the 4-H Fall Festival. 1st place went to Devin Edwards with an 81 pound pumpkin and 2nd place went to Stephanie Collins with a 33.5 pound pumpkin.
A photography contest was held for all ages. Best in Show went to Jim Wallace’s “Tranquility.” 1st place went to Logan Edgeman (Kid Division), Tyler Edgeman (Teen Division), Jim Wallace (Junior Adult Division), and Vickie White (Senior Adult Division). Other participants were Devin Edwards, Chandler Green, Melissa Swanson, Lorrie Edwards, Carla Green, Holli Davis, Melissa Railey, Valerie O’Brien, Paula Gann, and Arleen Wallace. Congratulations to all the winners!
Three bake-off contests were also held. 1st place in the kids’ cookie division went to Star Culberson for her Cowboy Cookies. Other participants were Brandy Cling, Logan Edgeman, Chandler Green and Rick McCauley. 1st place in the adult cake division went to Carla Green for her Heavenly Swiss cake. Other participants were Tonya Abernathy, Tyler Edgeman, Melissa Railey, Glaynelle McCauley, Dot McCauley and Anne Stephenson. 1st place in the adult pie division went to Anne Stephenson for her Lime Sherbet Pie and 2nd place went to Lynn Trujillo for her Sour Cream Peach Pie. Congratulations to all the winners!
We thank the Bank of LaFayette, Covenant Bank, Bank of Chickamauga and LaFayette Rotary Club for providing the prize money for these contests.
An auction raised money for TC Thompson’s Children’s Hospital Foundation. We thank Mr. Jim Powell for volunteering to be the auctioneer for this year’s event. Thanks to all 4-H Volunteers for helping at this year’s festival.
