Congratulations to the Spalding County 4-H Cotton Boll and Consumer Jamboree winners!
Spalding County 4-H'ers, Phillip Simmons, Katlyn LaVelle, Maia Price, and Erin Kelley were named the State winning team in the Georgia 4-H Cotton Boll and Consumer Jamboree Contest. Spalding County Program Assistant, Wendy Sauley-Simmons, served as the team coach. This team will represent Georgia in the Western Regional 4-H Roundup Consumer Decisions Contest in January, 2011.
Maia Price also won the High Overall Contest Individual Award.
The 4-H Cotton Boll and Consumer Jamboree Contest is designed to help 4-H’ers: Understand the importance of cotton as an agricultural commodity; Learn to promote cotton as an apparel fiber; make knowledgeable, rational decisions when purchasing goods and services; Select, use, maintain and dispose of goods and services in ways that maximize resources; Obtain clothing, goods and services to meet needs and reflect lifestyles, personal values and goals; Act as responsible consumer-citizen with an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of the consumer, business and government ; and Learn to communicate reasons for choices made. The contest is genrously sponsored by the Georgia Cotton Commission
