Dean Scott Angle of the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences returned to the Quitman County Extension Office in Georgetown on Friday, July 11.

He came along with Director of Extension County Operations Tony Tyson and Southwest District Extension Director Tony Roberts, to meet some of the elected officials in Quitman County and share with them how impressed he was with the operation of the Quitman County office.

Angle said he was very pleased with the Extension programs as well the 4-H accomplishments in Quitman County, a small county in rural Georgia with limited office staff.

Gayle Bennett, a retired Extension secretary, said that during her 28-year tenure, there had never been a visit from the dean of the university. Angle’s visit Friday was his second in the last year.

After treating everyone to lunch catered by Ferrell’s, Angle spoke about the university’s CAES campuses in Athens, Griffin and Tifton, highlighting the university’s mission, enrollment and admissions program.

He encouraged everyone to direct anyone interested in enrollment with the University of Georgia to contact the local extension office for assistance.

Afterwards, Dennis Montgomery provided a tour of D&J Plastics, Inc.

“This was a big deal for us,” said Cathrall. “We’ve known he was coming for some time and have been anticipating the dean’s visit.”
