4-H Project Achievement
This 8 minute video describes the Project Achievement process, explains the connection to the performance standards and provides testimony from both state and local school officials. In the words of State Board of Education Chair Wanda Barrs, “As a former 4-H’er, I can testify to the fact that 4-H Project Achievement helped prepare me for work and leadership in the 21st century. In this brief video, you will see how this simple teaching strategy can powerfully impact student achievement.”
4-H Project Achievement is a cornerstone in the Georgia 4-H program. From the first Boys Corn Club sharing their crop to today's presentation and portfolios on hundreds of projects, Project Achievement serves to showcase 4-H'ers work and success. Its relevance today has never been greater as educators across the state are discovering its significance in relation to the English Language Arts Georgia Performance Standards.

HORSE INFORMATION
2010 Georgia 4-H Horse Show Information
The Georgia State 4-H Horse Show is held each June at the Agricenter in Perry Georgia. There are no qualifying shows, and you can enter the State Show simply by being a registered member of the Lamar County 4-H Club, owning or leasing your horse by March 1 of the current year, and completing one of the three Georgia 4-H Project Horseman workbooks:
Cloverleaf and Junior 4-H’ers (5th – 8th graders) must complete at least half of the Novice Horseman 4-H Horse Project Manual and Senior 4-Hers must complete all of this book. The Novice Horseman 4-H Horse Project Manual is the first in a series of three manuals offered to document Horsemanship skills gained through the Georgia 4-H Horse Program. All participants should complete a new Novice Horseman 4-H Horse Project Manual each year. These workbooks will need to be turned in to the Lamar County 4-H office for the 4-H Agent to sign by Friday, May 21, 2010. After the 4-H Agent receives and signs the workbook, horse show classes will be entered. These workbooks will be kept on file for documentation.
Classes are offered in four divisions, Stock Seat (Western), Hunt Seat (English), Saddleseat (English), and Contest Events (Running), and in three age categories: Cloverleaf (1st-4th grade and 5th and 6th graders with limited experience), Junior (5th and 6th graders with demonstrated skills and 7th and 8th graders), and Senior (9th-12th graders). A champion and reserve champion are named in each division and age category.
Forty-two 4-H'ers qualify each year to proceed to Regional Competition, where they ride against other 4-H'ers from the 13 southern states.

Other Information
Here is a great new opportunity for Junior and Senior 4-H’ers!
Are you a fantastic 4-H’er? Georgia 4-H is proud to present an opportunity for Junior (7th and 8th grade) and Senior (9th and 12th grade) 4-H’ers to be featured on the Georgia 4-H webpage. The opportunity is called “Fantastic 4-H’er”. Each week, at least one fantastic 4-H’er will be featured on the Georgia 4-H webpage. The deadline to submit applications to the Lamar County 4-H office is the 1st and 3rd Thursday in each month. A “Fantastic 4-H’er” application and information to help you complete it can be found at the links below:
Commonly Asked Questions about the “Fantastic 4-H’er” spotlight:
- Does a 4-H’er apply every week? No, they apply once and their application is kept on file at the State 4-H office in Athens. 4-H’ers may apply and appear on the website once a year.
- Does county 4-H staff have to recommend the 4-H’er? Yes, there is space provided on the form for the nominator’s name and for a statement of support for the 4-H’er. Make sure to take the application to your 4-H office.
- Does the 4-H’er have to answer each question? While it is highly recommended that the 4-H’er to try to answer all the questions, in some cases they may not have information or a response for every area. The purpose of the questions is for those who review the application to get to know the 4-H’er so that a narrative paragraph can be written to highlight their accomplishments.
