UGA Cooperative Extension
4-H Youth Development - Project Achievement
Objectives:
- To acquire an understanding of subject matter in a given project area
- To develop skills in researching, assembling and presenting information
- To stimulate interest in continuing project work through 4-H experiences
- To provide opportunities for 4-H members to develop and enhance qualities
of integrity, sportsmanship, cooperation, poise and self-confidence - To help 4-H members develop skills in leadership and communication
How It Works
Haralson County 4-H’ers have the opportunity to participate in Project Achievement Competition. Cloverleaf 4-H’ers (grades 5 and 6) choose a project that interests them, prepare visual aids and a demonstration; then present their information in front of judges. The project categories are diverse and range from dog care and training to performing arts vocal. They must first compete at the county level (C.P.A.) If they win first place they then become eligible to participate at District Project Achievement (D.P.A.)
Junior (grades 7 and 8) and Senior (grades 9-12) 4-H’ers have the same opportunity withthe exception that there is no county competition., and they have to prepare a portfolio of their project work. Senior 4-H’ers have the opportunity to compete at the State level competition if they win first place in their project area at the district competition.
