4-H Youth Development

General Info

The mission of Georgia 4-H is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. This mission is accomplished through "hands-on" learning experiences, focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, foods and nutrition, health, energy conservation, and citizenship.

Events & Activities

  • Cloverleaf Camp at Rock Eagle (5th and 6th grades)
    • Our departure for Cloverleaf Camp is set for Monday, June 14th. We will be leaving from the Hunter Recreation Complex, 2970 Highway 16 East. Check-in begins at 8:00 am with buses leaving at 9:00. Pack carefully and remember to bring a sack lunch and drink.
    • If you have not turned in all paperwork, including the Code of Conduct and Medical Information forms, please do so BEFORE Monday morning. You will find .pdf versions of these forms at the end of the website.
    • We will return to the Coweta County Fairgrounds on Friday, June 18 at approximately noon. Please be on time to pick up your campers as they will be very tired. If you'd like, call our office at morning at (770) 254-2620 to check on up-to-date arrival times.
  • Junior Camp (7th and 8th grades)
    • Junior Camp is being held at Jekyll 4-H Center, July 5-11. Our quota is complete and final preparations are being made. Check back often for more information as it becomes available!
  • Wilderness Challenge Camp (7th through 9th grades)
    • Wilderness Challenge Camp is for those who have a love of the great outdoors. Being held at Camp Wahsega, July 11-15, the price for this camp is $340. Please bring the completed application to the Extension Office as soon as possible. Space is limited and is first come, first served statewide.
  • Senior Camp (9th through 12th grades)
    • Camp Wahsega is the location for Senior Camp this year on July 5-9. Information on departure and more will be available soon!
  • Farmville 4-D Adventure Camp (July 12-16)
    • For ages 9-14, this is a week of fun saluting all things AG! We'll cap off a week of fun with a field trip Friday to Butts Mill Farm in Pine Mountain. Total cost, including the field trip is only $50. See registration form for more information.
  • Coweta County Fair
    • It's not too early to be planning for the fair to be held from Thursday, September 30 through Saturday, October 9, 2010. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Special Interest Clubs

Conferences

During the year, Junior (7th and 8th graders) and Senior (9th - 12th graders) 4-H'ers have the opportunity to attend district and state conferences. While attending, you will meet new friends from across Georgia, participate in community service projects, and attend exciting workshops. Registration and application information will be given out during 4-H club meetings or you can call the 4-H Office.

Judging Events

Georgia 4-H Camps

Each summer, 4-H'ers have the opportunity to attend camp at one of the five 4-H centers: Rock Eagle 4-H Camp; Wahsega 4-H Camp; Jekyll Island 4-H Center; Tybee Island 4-H Center/Burton 4-H Center; and Fortson 4-H Center. Please check each site for information on all of the camps offered.
